The law relating to child support is in line for some changes

As part of our ongoing client support we outline here the proposed changes, and will keep progress under review so we can update clients further in due course.

The main proposed changes are:

(a) Fairer and more effective penalty rules, with a grace period for people who are new to the scheme;
(b) Employer deductions of child support for newly-liable people;
(c) A four year time bar for reassessing child support; and;
(d) A wider definition of “income” for child support purposes.

Investment income would also be automatically taken into account to get a better picture of a person’s ability to support their children.

If you are unsure as to your child support obligations it pays to seek advice from a professional experienced in this area.
