The insured had damaged her glasses by scratching and went to the insurer to see if she could claim under the policy.  She was told that the policy did not cover gradual damage like scratching, but would cover a sudden loss of the glasses.

A short while later the insured reported that her glasses were lost and made a claim under the policy.  It transpired that she had not lost her glasses, but had merely made a claim that they had been lost, to get them covered by her insurance.

Not only did the insurer refuse her claim for lost glasses, but it also cancelled all her other insurance policies and put a note on the insurance Claims Register of her fraudulent claim.  The notification on the register meant that she was unable to obtain any insurance from any other insurance company.  A small lie, over a small item of glasses, has led to a serious and lifelong problem for the insured in obtaining insurance.
